Exactly, this is one of the biggest advantages for me.

I started doing that when DNG first came out, but now with version 3.2
available, and NEVER having usied one of the old PEF's I have
switched to a workflow where the PEF's are converted to DNG
in batch, and the DNG's being backed up to two different external
backup disks (USB 2.0)

I keep the last couple of hundred PEF's arround 'just in case'
but discard them as soon as I need the diskspace or when
there are too many of them ...

At the moment I do not archive the DNG's to DVD, since I
have at least three copies on three different harddisks,
but at some point I may, and then the smaller size of the DNG's
is an advantage too ...
