While BC does endeavor to plow Highway 5 as soon as possible, it does
get shut on a regular basis. My dad just missed a shutdown on highway 5
just after christmas, and that's by no means the only one. Given the
length, remoteness and altitude of much of Highway 5, it's difficult to
keep open in the winter.
