Be happy that you were on the Atlantic route. Flying from Australia to the UK economy passengers are allowed 20kg checked and 6kg carry on plus one coat, one book or magazine and one small camera bag. We flew to the UK last August and this put a severe dent on what we could take and even more so on what we could bring back. Postage isn't that cheap either, so stuff had to be light or expensive enough to be worth keeping.
I flew Qantas but my return flight ended up being BA due to "code sharing". The BA plane was shabby, the aircon broke down at Singapore and the food was pretty drab. I was pretty unhappy by the time I got to Melbourne (a 23 hour flight), but then found that the flight following us in had people fleeing Bali after the latest round of bombings and my concerns seemed pretty small. Nevertheless, I don't ever want to fly BA in economy again. Paul Ewins Melbourne, Australia
