I suspect because they have a studio strobe outfit consisting of
dedicated Canon strobes and IR controllers.
I have a Canon 420EX. It's a good flash on the 10D, and utterly useless
on anything other than a Canon.

The other EX series flashes (Well, the 430, 550 and 580, not the bitty
ones) are more useful on non-Canon gear, because you can vary flash
power in manual, but the ST-E2 won't even trigger off the D (I tried).
