If one watches for the 2X-L it can be found on eBay reasonably. I paid the going rate for mine, then saw one a couple of weeks later that sold for half that much

I think I've seen it listed new for around $550 USD.
I've had a new one for several years (got it free) but have yet to actually take an image with it.
Might try to use it this long weekend.

Should have done a blind test.
It appears to me the second image is noticeably softer.
Is it unacceptable? Probable not. It might be if the subject was closer.

That boat was a speck on the lake, probably a couple of miles distant.
Other than that, the day was calm, and the lens was stopped down one or two stops, no more than that. It's definitely not as sharp as the unteleconverted one, but that's not too surprising.
