3. The Pentax "xs" converters (as in "Pentax-A 1.4x-S, 2x-S) are
designed to be used with most focal length lenses. The "xl" variants
("Pentax-A 1.4x-L, 2x-L") are designed to be used with specific
longer focal length lenses. They have a projecting optic on the lens
side that will interfere if you try to fit them to the wrong primary
lenses. I believe there is a manual available on-line from Pentax
which describes which lenses are compatible with which converter.
4. I've seen the A70-210/4 Macro listed on Ebay for around $100, and
on good reseller websites (like B&H and KEH) for around $190-200. I
sold mine for around the latter price (can't remember exactly...) in
EXC++ condition with case and caps.

1. Asahi is to Pentax as Nippon Kogaku is to Nikon, the old

Takumar is the equivalent of Nikkor for screw-mount lenses. For K
mount lenses it denotes the cheaper consumer lenses without full
SMC coating (Like Series E, but of lower quality, most Series E
lenses were gems, most Takumars weren't).
2. yes, via an adaptor. You use the lenses like a K/M lens, via
stop-down metering after enabling a custom function.

1) Is Asahi to Pentax as Nikkor is to Nikon? If so, then what is
Takumar?
2) A salesman at a store told me that I can use 67 lens' on my istDL,
is this true? If so, how well does it work?
3) What is the difference between the Pentax xl and xs
teleconverters?
4) How much should I expect to pay for an A70-210/4 in good condition
(not mint, not trashed)?
Thanks for helping out the newb.
