During my high school and uni years, I was really interested in those times. In LA, I picked up a signed copy of McNamara's "In Retrospect" (published some years before the Fog of War and more comprehensive). His time at the World Bank, in my opinion, was no less disastrous, and probably had a wider reaching effect. In the most sympathetic way possible, I feel the same way about him as I do about Albert Speer. An admirable, brilliant man, with a very fatal flaw. I think his remorse is genuine.

I have a feeling that he is a very rare breed who find themselves in this situation, and can be so erudite about their confessions. I have doubts about any of the current generation of politicians being as open.
