I have borrowed a friend's manfretto tripod with a 322RC2 head once, and I did not like how the grip obstructed you from tilting the camera too far back. So if you were shooting up at something, you had to have the camera mounted a certain way, with the grip to the side or in the front. Is this just an amature mistake I'm making? Does everyone else get around this somehow? I don't think adjusting the legs to get an upwards angle is a good idea either....
The 322RC2 head is flexible enough to achieve almost any shooting angle... I don't see what you mean by "obstructed you from tilting the camera too far back". Mounted on my tripod the normal way (grip on the right, camera pointed away from the QR lever, I can achieve all angles from straight up to straight down with the camera in both portrait and landscape orientation.
But that's not to say it's the best head for every purpose. Every head has some restrictions on its movements. The 322RC2 is very good at being fast and secure, covers most normal movements and needs easily.
But you should pick the head that works best for what you want to do, that's all.
