It already does, the 10.5mp 5fps Nikon D200.
I think he meant compete in terms of *price* as well as pixel count.
I don't expect the Canon version to be significantly different in price
from the D200 when introduced. Possibly $50-100 cheaper, but that's it.
In fact, I don't expect the D2 to be significantly cheaper than the D200.
