Actually a Pro-photographer of my acquaintance uses Minolta gear, I ran
into her at an event not long ago and she was using a 7D. Not a bad
camera for a huge honking monster, lots'o knobs and buttons though. I
miss the buttons on my D but...

Unusurprising. KM was years late to the DSLR game and it seems to
have killed them. Even Pentax has a much larger share of the
(profitable) DSLR market, but then again, the *istD was on the
market almost 2 years before the Maxxum 7D arrived.
