The question is "Who is the photographer?"
But, since I've had to add more clues, the stakes have also been raised.
I also want the names of the subjects, as well as the make and (roughly)
the
model and production years of the car... :-)
Have fun (or flame me :-) ),

Okay, just for the heck of it I am going to say Ansel Adams is the
photographer. He did shoot in color, he did do some people shots, and he
definitely shot
ads to make money.
What a minute that's a shot of Frida.
Okay, I am going to go with Georgia O'Keefe's partner, Alfred Stieglitz.
The
time frame would be right. And he was a New Yorker. Frida and Diego Rivera
came to New York sometime in the 1930's I think.
Well, it's a good guess as any.
Marnie aka Doe :-)
No, not Stieglitz, Marnie. (Nor Ansel Adams.)
Thanks för guessing, I offer you this for your consolation:

I'm starting to think it may be too difficult a quiz for the list. I was
thinking that by some of the subjects, someone by chance would run into the
photographer's name.
He's name is not that well known. Neither is my purpose to promote him above
any body else's favourite photographer. I simply have enjoyed looking at a
number of his photographs as I happened to run into them.
He was however at one time member of a certain group of photographers, which
included some of the most influential 20th century photographers.
Just like many other American photographers, he was born in Europe.
Thanks,
Lasse
