Well, I've not seen his interviews, and from everything said here I
don't see that the use of the word "weird" is applicable, certainly
no more so to TC than to any number of other people.
For example, there are a lot of people who believe that drugs are not
always the answer to medical or emotional problems. Eastern
medicine relies heavily on alternative sources of healing, there are
any number of holistic doctors and veterinarians practicing in this
country as well, some people thought you were odd for proffering the
idea that by eliminating tomatoes and potatoes from one's diet
arthritis pain and stiffness could be cured or reduced.
We're not comaring Tom Cruise's "medical knowledge" against a witch
doctor or any other alternative medical help, altho' it IS compelling!
H made some pronouncements that should only come from a graduate doctor
of medicine, who also had experience in the field, and here was good ol'
Tom saying, in effect, if not in fact, ""No. You don't know what you're
talking about. I've studied all this and I can tell you without
hesitation that what I've said is right and what you've said is all
hogwash."
What chutzpah! What arrogance! What ignorance!
If all you
saw was a "clip" of an interview with Matt Lauer, then what you saw
may have been taken out of context. Sound bites are not worth much,
m'dear. Where did you see this clip? I'm sure it wasn't on the News
Hour with Jim Lehrer (sp?)
I personally saw that show, Shel, and Cruise was WAY out of line.
Taken out of context? Absolutely _not_.
You might have gained some understanding if you'd have seen Cruise's
wild eyes, and his ruffed up hair, and almost spitting when he expounded
his parroting of what he believed was a good opinion to hold.
The early English would have thrown his sorry butt into Bedlam!
No, of course that's an exaggeration.
Isn't it.
But, what's even more interesting is that so many people on this
list, and throughout the world, care about the personal ramblings and
private lives of people like Cruise, and Brad Pitt, and so on.
Perhaps you misunderstand. We here were expounding on comments that a
specific person made, with respect to a specific circumstance, and
giving our opinions on how we felt about it.
These
people are ~ACTORS~ and it's in their blood to act in ways that grab
our attention and keep themselves visible in the media. Sometimes
they do or say things that are over the top, or outside the
mainstream. BFD ...
Yeah? Well, when they go on national television and tell respected
people their ideas are totally wrong, and he, Tom, knows what the real
truth is, and that's the only truth that IS!
That's not acting, it's playing the fool, and expecting people to cowtow
to you because you're a celebrity!
That's the only bullshit that there is hereabouts...
The lives and behavior of these people, for me,
starts and stops when I pay my admission to the movie theater, or
rent a DVD from NetFlix.
