Thanks for the comments. I just checked and don't have any
alternative pre or post shots with the runners nearer or farther.
I had encountered the runners earlier, but stopped to shoot some
pines in the sunrise glow. They got ahead of me and I was coming up
on them as I visualized the "S" curve possibility. I rushed closer,
saw the fog, and jumped out to take the shot. I didn't like the
runners as they got smaller, so I drove closer and tried for some more
shots but without much luck. The sky and light got worse as I neared
the trees and curve.
