I don't think the 645D is extremely costly to develop. As high-end DSLR's goes, it is probably dirt cheap to develop. The chassis and mechanics is from a more than 20 year old camera. The electronics are from the *istD. The sensor is bought in from Kodak and the digital parts are probably to a very large extent similar to whats used in other pentax DSLR's. The cameras marketability is probably very much larger than any MF camera using film.
