The VariMagni finder I obtained fits the Pentax *ist DS and Pentax MX
(I just tested that one) as if it were made for them. It's actually a
better fit on the eyepiece than the Canon Angle Finder C on the Canon
10D body.
There's certainly some variability in all these pieces, both the
camera eyepieces and the VariMagni finders. For instance, the first
DS body I bought a rubber eye protector that was a touch loose and
disappeared one day. The replacement fits precisely, snugly, and will
never come free of its own accord like that one did. The second DS
body's eyepiece is similarly snug and precise.
