I obtained iLife 06 yesterday but have not installed it as yet. I don't use iLife all that much (mostly iTunes, occasionally iPhoto, iDVD and iMovie, never GarageBand) so I've never installed the whole package. I'm curious about iWeb, but I may build a boot system on an external drive to experiment with it before installing on the desktop system (my laptop is too old to even install iLife 06 on...).

The iLife release bundle, even 05, is bigger than a CD ... It requires a DVD. iLife 06 requires a dual layer, high density DVD ... it's a 6.2Gbyte install package. I'm not sure what disks are supplied with an iBook bundle these days, but it should be on some sort of restore disk.

But the most difficult part of your problem is that if you are having problems with other applications, it's not the iLife 06 applications that are the problem. It's the underlying system frameworks that those applications depend upon. I don't know of an easy way to back those new installed components out and replace them with the previous versions, short of reinstalling the operating system and iLife 05 from scratch.

I found some articles on this topic using apple.com's support pages:
  http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=42995
  http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=88334
but the data is pre-iLife 05 as far as I can see. You might be best off calling Apple's technical support for specific help.
