Well, yes and no...
Yes, the lens has a provision for gelatin filters via the use of the
provided holder that is threaded to the rear of the lens.
No, it is not required for sharp focus at infinity. This lens is sold
without any such proviso. There may be lenses that do require a filter
element as you described, but this is not one of those. The filters are
built in, at least a UV, O2, and Y2.
The Pentax Lens Operating manual from Asahi gives no special instructions
for the lens beyond proper use of the internal filter, and provision for
gelatin filters.
The lens in question, in my first-hand experience, is sharp without
additional filters, and focuses correctly as any other lens would.
