I'd say that if this picture is taken while trusting to AF only, I think your eyes will thank you...:-)

It's a funny shot, but I think it's hard to infer anything about the quality of the lens from it.
Yes. It was done at f/8 or thereabouts. The distance between the mirror and the wall is probably less than 1 m. So it is all due to DOF..
However, having shot other subjects with this lens, I am perfectly pleased with its performance.
