Hello Jay,

The heron looks reasonably sharp.  I don't know how much you sharpened
it in software, so I can't comment about stopping down more.  For the
picture involved, it seems to be enough DOF.  The bokeh in the
background seems a bit harsh - I don't recall seeing that from my lens
- I'm going to have to go back and look for similar scenes I've shot.

When using a converter, remember that you may have to stop down a bit
more to get reasonable sharpness.  So if you are feeling like the
lens is best at f8 and then put a 1.4x on, you are now at f11 - seems
rather slow - also more difficult to focus.  I just don't bother with
a converter on my 400.  Let us know how it goes.
