Hi Gianfranco,
The "Birmingham Gentleman" pic was a straight grayscale conversion. But
following conversion I applied curve corrections to produce the desired
grayscale values. I had some help from a professional retoucher. She
was working with me on another project and became interested in this
photo. . She generally eschews the channel miser and does straight
conversions with tweaks performed afterwards.
