As a matter of fact, I am looking very seriously at it right now......
I bought a 9x12 Intuos3 about a year ago for two reasons. Firstly
the older Intuos model was picking up interference from my screen if
it was less than about a foot away, and also because I wanted to be
able to cover my entire dual-screen desktop without the sensitivity
being too high. Previously I'd had to restrict the 4x5" to an area
big enough to cover one screen plus a few Photoshop palettes on the
second screen.
I'm glad to see they brought out a wide-aspect tablet but I do like
the fact that the extra space of the 9x12 forms a good armrest while
using it.
The Intuos tablets allow finer pressure control, and I believe also
finer resolution than the Graphire tablets.
It used to be that the Intuos pens were more comfortable, but that
may have changed (the Intuos2/3 pens are far better than the original
Intuos). The pen was the biggest reason why I bought an Intuos
instead of a Graphire.
I'm disappointed to hear about the Linux support still being poor.
It took me a long, long time to get my 4x5" USB tablet working with
Linux. I had to have the right kernel with the right options, the
right modules loaded in the right order, the right version of
XFree86, and the right tablet driver (there were several available
from various sources) with the right configuration options in that
ghastly XFree86 configuration file. And I still couldn't get
pressure sensitivity to work. Still, not as bad as calculating
Modelines in the good-old-days :)
Cheers,
