So, it seems some (even professionals) prefer using fast AF, some prefer auto AF-tracking - from AF point to AF point (Contax), others prefer using MF, and some even prefer shooting in manual mode, when is comes to photographing "action" like skating and skaters. It seems that almost anything goes. The really difficult part, however, seem to be handling the legal issues. This quite interesting article is about just that:
