I do not have this lens but I remember that Pentax designer was saying that it would have a full circle fish eye effect if attached to 35mm camera, if the hood is removed (otherwise vignettes). However, the marketing insisted that they wanted to leave the hood fixed as it was rather than removable. I guess they were afraid of customer complaints after scratching the protruding front glass. But I am also sure that many enthusiasts cut out the hood (hood is almost useless as a shade anyway :-) and fabricated a dedicated protective cap. Ken
