That's conspiracy theory running rampant.

The MZ-S was a one-off, high-end completion of the MZ range, designed
as the end of the film line for the advanced amateur.  As such, it
made a fair amount of sense, at the time, to base a possible digital
camera on a camera that (superficially, at least) shared that design.

If the MZ-D had made it to market, then I expect that the Pentax DSLR
lineup would look very different; we may very well have had cameras
which allowed aperture setting on the lens, as well as from the body -
the PZ cameras showed that was possible.  But that's as maybe - the
MZ-D never got out the door, and the world moved on.
