My one & only visit to Wawa was in the late 70's. Arrived in town late one rainy cold fall night (my wife & young son) together with another couple in a separate vehicle we quickly surmised there weren't many places to stay & split up to find a vacancy. We eventually met up again at the place with the only vacancy in town - all 5 of us with two golden retrievers - all in a two bed room. I'll never forget that night!

>The Wawa part is a joke. Westerners live in mortal fear of that town.

Is that the one @ the top of Lake Superior?
If so, what do westerners fear about it?

Inquiring minds want to know.

One of the coming of age rituals used to be hitch hiking "down east".
Getting dropped off in Wawa was like ending up in purgatory.
It could take forever to get a ride out of town.

Legend has it that a kid from Calgary got dropped off in Wawa and wasn't able to hitch a ride out.
He ended up out of money, and started working at a local diner.
One thing led to another and he started dating one of the waitresses, ended up marrying her and to this day, lives in Wawa.
