Even with a wacked-out and unprofiled monitor that's nowhere near sRGB
he should get an accurate preview of how it will look on *his*
monitor. And that's what's not happening.

Here's my suggested approach:

OK, so the image is in sRGB colorspace, that's good. (Double check
that it really *is* in sRGB, just to be sure.)

Check the monitor calibration. Use Adobe Gamma if that's all you have.

In Photoshop, look at VIEW, Proof Setup and see what's checked. WIth a
well calibrated monitor, this shouldn't affect how the image appears
on screen. Try a couple of different settings (Working CMYK, Macintosh
RGB, Windows RGB, Monitor RGB) and see if there's any visible
difference. If there is, you're probably best off working in Monitor
RGB.

Also under the VIEW menu, make sure Proof Colors is checked.

Now try Save for Web. The image will look the way it's going to appear
in a browser and it should be the same as it looks in the main
Photoshop window. If it doesn't, I'm stumped!
