As with most motor manufacturers, they bought what was available at the best 
price.  Lafranconis, Contis and another whose name I forget were fitted to 
bikes in the UK market and there were more, er, fruity versions available for 
those who wanted to make a better impression on their environment....

Now, the rattle at tickover does the same thing 8-)))
