Thanks Brian. With the Xtender and the Sigma 500, I'd guess i can get f5.6 exposures at 50 feet with ISO 800. But that's just a guesstimate.

Like the image. The noisy background seems to suit it somehow.

The Kirk Xtender sounds like an interesting but of kit. What sort of
effective range do you get with it?

Cheers,

Brian

Yes, Cassino is very good, but very much not here:-). Seriously,
Mark was the one who convinced me that flash was a big advantage
for this type of photography. Then Bill Sawyer introduced me to the
Kirk Xtender. That gives even a moderately powerful flash
sufficient range.

Thanks Christian. You are the resident bird expert,

noooooo! Cassino is the bird expert; he just hasn't been around
lately.

I have become a firm believer in handheld bird photography. Too
many misses
with a tripod.
At 1/750th or faster and with flash fill, handheld works out
rather
well.

And you have proved this many times. I am just a firm believer
in
supports and don't trust myself: Steady Stenquist vs Shaky
Skofteland :-)
