CRC is Nikonese for a floating element. It debuted with the 28/2.8 AI-S,
and really does improve performance on the 28 and 24's (Not sure about
anything wider).

CRC? I stopped using mine after buying the FA 24mm f/2 but kept it as a back
up, not worth selling really.

I returned four of them, three of those after having several

That's unfortunate, are we talking the early lenses?
I got my first 24 f/2.8 mid eighties, great performer, never had a
problem,
still have it. I use the 16mm f/2.8 fisheye, same as above. Both manual
focus.
Since AF I have 105 f2.8 EX Macro - excellent, 300 f/4 APO - excellent,
both
EX TC's - excellent, and just got the 70-200 f/2.8 EX APO - not tried it,
weather is atrocious here. Never returned one, never any complaint and
not
had a fault with any yet. Oh! the paint markings wear off the barrel
after
extended use on the manual focus lenses, but that's it.
