Yes. With the 4-element Tamron 1.4X image iso not bad at center but becomes noticeably softer at the very edges (on the D), while using the Sigma 1.4X EX you get a very nice picture all over the frame (noticeably better than the one with the Tamron even at center). However, by using the Sigma converter you have to overexpose 1/3-1/2 stop to get a proper exposure.
I haven't tried 2X converters.

I own the 70-200/2.8 EX (not DG) and it's a gem. Both build quality
and optical performance are at the top. You can use it wide open at
200mm with no worry (which was not the case with any other zoom lens
in this range I used before the Sigma).

That's reasuring, I can vouch for the build quality, I can't wait to use it. I took a look at the sample images on your site several times. Have you tried
it with either of the EX teleconverters?
