Thanks Ralf. Our temperatures only crept above freezing this past week, although it was a generally mild winter. However, I think plants become acclimated to the average temperatures of their home. I've noticed that most perennial flowers don't bloom quite as early here in the north central US as they did when I lived near the coast in New Jersey, even though we have had occasional winters that are as mile as those on the coast. Perhaps the plants are programmed by the average winter temps. But it's obvious that one warm winter -- or one abnormally cold winter -- doesn't seem to upset the schedule as much as one might expect.

I've seen this year's first snowdrops ten days ago in Nothern France.
Wouldn't have expected them that early especially after temps had been
(and still are) well below average for weeks on end.
