Thanks John.As Far as my croping to 8x10,i have (i think)constarints turned off
so the 2000x1340 should be the same. Were i noticed the difference is
in using the Picture Package part of the program under the file menu. The 5x7's
are created by the program(i'm sure you know that)If i UP the resolution at this point
from
72 to say 150 or so should that help???.
To day is Sat morning and i plan to experiment some.

The reason i ask this query is at the few horse shows i have taken digital pic's
and printed out the 8x10's they look great and now i'd like to
offer other packages,5x7's and 4x5's for those that want to send pic's to Grandma etc.

Thanks in advance

Dave

So far, so good. You're starting out with a digital image,
which only has one important dimensional metric - the number
of pixels.

> I then resize the image to 8" high to make the canvas 8x12

Two questions:

 1) Why introduce an arbitrary value of size (in inches)

 2) When you 'resize', is any resampling taking place?
(you don't want resampling; make sure it's turned off)

But if all you want to do is crop the image to the right aspect
ratio, then why not just do that, and crop it to 1675x1340
(the same aspect ratio as an 8x10). For that matter, if
you really want a final 5x7 image, why not just crop to that
aspect ratio directly (1876 x 1340).

An 1876 x 1340 image would give you a 268dpi 7 x 5 print.

Don't worry about that at present - until you manage to prevent
PhotoShop from resampling your images to maintain it's default
guess of a reasonable dpi (a pitiful 72dpi) anything else is
just minor tweaking. You've *got* to prevent Photoshop from
throwing away almost all your image data.
