Hi everyone, I just thought I'd share my good news... 1. I got my Leica CL back from a very nice man in deepest Herefordshire after CLA and repairs. It's working and I'm dying to use it for the sort of candids my MXs are too noisy and cumbersome for... 2. And I might get the chance, I'm taking my two lads up to North Wales for a week to stay with my sister and her man (wildlife snapper, Canon ;-P) in a cottage on the slopes of Snowdon. Although he did say he's used MX and LX in the Arctic shooting polar bears a few years ago. Nothing but praise for them. Anyway, I was going through my bits and this is what I'm taking: Leica CL MX and drive (I would take the other also but She Who Must Be Obeyed who is staying behind for a week's peace wanted to do a few walks - she does some nice close-ups, patterns and texture, that sort of thing, not my cup of tea) Pentax 85mm Tokina 28-70 Sigma 70-200 Tokina 500 mirror Tubes for the 85 (in lieu of the Tok 90 macro - trying to save weight) Vanguard Monopod Velbon Tripod Royal Gold for the MX Ilford Delta 400 for the Leica Hiking will be just the MX and probably the 85 - I want to try and limit myself to just one lens and see what can be achieved. The obvious choice would be the 2 zooms to cover most eventualities, but they're heavy. What I'm really missing is a good wide. I've been keeping my eye out for a 20 or 24, but this may have to wait (see final point below). What I'd really really like is an SMC-M 15mm, sigh. 3. When I first joined this list, I read a lot about 'enablement' and I didn't have a clue what it meant. Months later, I think I do. I've read a lot of thoughts about various cameras, especially the MZ-S, and it kinda sets you thinking about what you don't have, and whether or not you maybe really would like to try something else. In a sort of spiral of inevitability, the more I read the thoughts, the more I think about things, and well, I guess I've discovered 'enablement' Sort of like 'enlightenment' in a very secular guise? The upshot is, I've raided the financial reserves (which don't exist anyway) and somehow 'seen the light' and been 'enabled' to purchase...wait for it...an LX. My Giddy Aunt, I said it - does this mean I will find photographic salvation - or maybe that should be salivation - ??? We shall see. I'll wait until the deal is done to thank the seller - never one to jump the gun too far otherwise the bullet can whip around and hit you in the rewind crank. To anyone who still doesn't understand this 'enablement' business, all I can say is, you will. You will. Cheers and hope you're all having a good summer or winter, depending where you are.
