I am looking for a decent flash for my Pentax *ist DL. I have an old Vivitar 383 super but I am ready to upgrade. I am looking at the Sigma EF-500 DG Super based on a recommendation by Mark Roberts. I am also looking at the Pentax AF400FTZ and was wondering if anyone had an opinion on that unit as I have a chance to pick one up for a rather low price. I am having a hard time finding any reviews on the unit. Will it fully support TTL fill and remote wireless TTL? Any other thoughts?

The AF500FTZ is TTL only. It's a decade since it was discontinued. The AF500FTZ is stronger, but also only TTL. The only P-TTL, wireless, HSS, etc Pentax (not third party) flash is the AF360FGZ, which is a bit on the weak side, but may be OK for your purposes.

The features of all Pentax flashes is available from

In addition to those, Pentax has announced the AF540FGZ, an upgrade to the AF360FGZ which will support P-TTL, Wireless, HSS...
