Here are the instructions for using these lenses on the D/DS/DL that Godfrey posted in the DPreview Pentax SLR Forum back in December:

"Do this once and you never have to touch it again.

0) Menu - Custom Settings - Set "Using Aperture Ring" to "permitted"

When using a lens without an "A" position on the aperture ring:
1) Set camera to Manual Exposure mode
2) Set aperture to the desired setting with the lens' ring
3) Touch the shutter button to activate the meter
4) Frame the subject to meter
5) Press the "AE-Lock" button.

The DS will close down the aperture briefly, take a reading, and set the corresponding shutter time. You can change its set exposure by turning the aperture ring or the thumbwheel for shutter time. If you do this while targeting the same scene and with the DoF Preview ring held, the deviation from the camera's meter setting will be shown in the lower right of the viewfinder (+/- 2EV range).
- Aperture setting will not be shown in the viewfinder or on the LCD.
- Once you take a meter reading and the camera sets a shutter speed, it does not
change unless you change it yourself or take another reading.
- If you're working with a Manual Focus lens (all Pentax lenses without an "A" setting are manual focus), set the AF/MF switch to MF or the shutter release will be blocked until the green focus indicator light is illuminated. "
