Are there any other DSLRs (besides Pentax) that can easily use lenses from
earlier film cameras?

- Canon DSLRs use the EOS mount, same as their film cameras for the last 20 years or so. - Nikon DSLRs can be used with most Nikon mount lenses, without adapter. Same for Konica Minolta and Minolt AF series lenses. - Canon DSLRs have a short mount register so there are adapters for lenses from film SLRs relatively easily available. - Four Thirds mount DSLRs (Olympus, Panasonic) have an even shorter mount register, so there are adapters available for them too.

Limitations in metering and auto diaphragm operation exist for all except the Canon DSLRs and EOS mount lenses.

Are the Pentax DSLRs unusually lightweight?

They are small and light compared to some, but there are other small DSLRs appearing. Canon's 350XT, for instance, is about the same size and weight as the *ist DS. The *ist D/DS/DS2, however, have a better viewfinder than others in their price range, particularly the DS/DS2.

Are there any other DSLRs with mirror lockup?

Pentax includes mirror pre-fire with the 2 second self timer setting. Some Nikons, some Canons, and I believe the Konica Minolta D7 do too. The Canon 10D, and others in their range, include full mirror lock up (operate shutter release once to lock the mirror up, a second time to make the exposure).
