Judging from the bird photographs @ treknature.com, a lot of birdphotographs are done with 70-200mm, 100-300, 170-500mm zooms. A few are done using longer focal lengths - like 400mm or 600mm ( ). I guess some of them are done in Zoo's, but most are wild life photographs. IMO the best ones are done at 200mm or more. 70-200mm: http://www.treknature.com/gallery/North_America/United_States/photo45835.htm 400mm: http://www.treknature.com/gallery/Middle_East/Turkey/photo46404.htm 600mm; http://www.treknature.com/gallery/Europe/United_Kingdom/photo46441.htmby
I guess the best preparation is to know a lot about the specific birds and the environment ;-) And knowing your equipment. And being prepared to use enough time ;-) The local ornithology communities should provide good guidelines as to where to find which birds. I'd like to give it a try too. I live a few km's away from a Natura 2000 habitat: http://www.jensbladt.dk/pano/newfile9.html Regards Jens Jens Bladt http://www.jensbladt.dk -----Oprindelig meddelelse----- Fra: Markus Maurer [mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED] Sendt: 20. marts 2006 00:20 Til: [email protected] Emne: RE: PESO: Fisrt attempt at birds Hi Tim I'm very interested in your results because I would like to get some bird shots too and do not have the proper equipment too ;-) You first sample does not look not very promising. I really wonder if I should start doing birds with similar tools with film if you do not get better results digitally :-( greetings Markus >>-----Original Message----- >>From: Tim Øsleby [mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED] >>Sent: Sunday, March 19, 2006 6:30 PM >>To: [email protected] >>Subject: PESO: Fisrt attempt at birds >> >> >>My first attempt in my eco political photodoc "Fuglefjæra på >>Nordfjordeid". >>While waiting at my "new" long zoom, I am using my Vivitar 70-210 S1 plus >>AF1.7x. I really need some feedback on this to get me going. This image is not meant as documentation on the specie, more a getting the "mood" picture.
