True for almost all thumbnail/previewer/cataloger applications. I think the only ones that does RAW conversion to render the thumbnails, as an option only, are ACDSEE and BreezeBrowser.

Adobe's Bridge and Lightroom update the embedded preview JPEG using the Camera Raw or Lightroom parameters, Bridge and Lightroom then cache the JPEG thumbnails for speed in use.

Apparently, XnView is only good at displaying the preview... It won't actually decode the RAW information at all. True for both PEFs and DNGs.

Hi!

I've installed the XNView as one or two list members suggested. It looks very nice. Potentially I could replace IrfanView with it. However, with .pef files (*istD) it behaves strangely. It would display a thumbnail properly. Then if I would ask it to convert or double click on a .pef file it would show it in a very perverse way.

Do you know how it should be set up to be able to convert/ display .pef files properly?

Thanks.

Boris
