I've seen several of the photographers at wet motorsports events
using various waterproof hoods. In fact I've just bought a couple
of the Tenba ones (one sized for a 300mm, one for a 200) in case it
is wet at Spa Francorchamps - I'm coming back with photographs!
The hood has a velcro band at the front (with part of the velcro
on sticky-backed tape so you can fasten it to your lens hood), a
clear window at the back so you can see the viewfinder and/or LCD,
and more velcro to fasten the back cover to the camera back or base.
It's left loose at the bottom so you can reach in and adjust things.
It's also thin enough to allow you to feel the shutter release.
Basically they're just a slightly more sophisticated approach.
A zip-loc back, or a plastic bin liner, with a circular hole cut
out (and held on by an elastic band) probably works nearly as
well, and would certainly be a great deal cheaper!
I hope I don't have to use them, but if I do I'll report back.
