And, I don't know about the majority of the general US public, but I never encountered the term until it showed up in this thread. Not a clue what it meant until translated. As an experiment, just asked the other half if he knew it. He did. Said, "People in IT know it." (Yes, I know IT stands for Information Technology. Been married to him long enough to learn that one, anyway.)
