Have you ever just considered using a handheld organizer like a Palm
or some such.  They are designed to be a bit easier to use than the MS
stuff.  It comes with desktop software that works just like your
handheld and syncs back and forth.  One problem with a desktop only
solution is that when you are away from your pc you can't check and
update your schedule - so you go to the doctor's office, need to make
an appointment - can't check the schedule.

I think that is why there is not much available.  Either you use
something like Outlook to synchronize an entire office or you use
something like a Palm to handle your own use.  Me, I have used Palms
all along and they work great.  I am considering something like
Godfrey has - the Treo phone - gives you one device for phone and
organizer with synching to the desktop.

The handheld approach is truly worth investigating.
