Joe, Just a few comments.
I never analyzed the comparative price for any other Fujitsu model rather than P-series. However, those models if configured comparably (at $1800 level) were about $300-500 cheaper than Sony's. Fujitsu seems to have a typical price cycle: when the new model (within the series) comes out, - its price is a bit higher, but then it drops down a bit ($100-300) after 1-3 months. At least this was the case with the P-series. Good prices for Fujitsu laptops have been seen at: Egghead.com and at Portable One (aka Laptops Inc.): laptopsinc.com The latter can do better customization for you. E.g. I requested (at an additional price) to replace the "standard" 5400 rpm HDD (I believe made by Toshiva or Fujitsu) with a 7200 rpm TravelStar by IBM (now Hitachi GST), which is faster, quieter and presumably produces less heat (unless used for continuous file transfer in which case it is the same). I also used Portable One for a warranty service (they were very quick and accomodating with the turnaround). I am not sure if they are still as good with that, as I tried to contact them recently on some service issue, and the response was not as accomodating.. In any case - for many technical questions and issues, - check http://www.leog.net/fujp%5Fforum/forum.asp?FORUM_ID=20 HTH, Igor Wed, 29 Mar 2006 19:38:26 -0800 Joseph Tainter wrote: Thanks to those of you who recommended the Fujitsu notebooks. After some hours on their web site I am sold. But, wow, they are expensive. Comparable Sony models like like a bargain in contrast. Well, as I have argued in regard to lenses, one never regrets buying quality. At least the Fujitsus are expensive to get the things I want. I would like their extra-bright display and a 5400 rpm drive. In budget models one can get one of those or the other, but not both. To get both takes $$. And I need to hang onto some $$ for the DA 21, the DA 70, the D+, the new flash, the DA 50-135 and the DA 16-50. Not to mention dentistry for the whole family. Maybe prices will drop a bit next month. Merchants in the U.S. abhor April (tax time). I'm already working two jobs, and collecting a retirement check from a third. It's still not enough. Sigh! Incidentally, I have seen the complaints about older Toshibas overheating. I believe newer models have a vent on the side. Joe
