Rob, thanks for the correction.
Even tho I have the 200 f4 macro & both the 1.4 XS & XL I've never
considered using anything but the XS with the 200. When I got my 300mm 4.5 I
inquired of Pentax (current literature then was in error) as to the correct
convertor for that lens & was told XS for the 300 & shorter & XL for longer,
never checked it out. Now I wonder if there is a performance difference
between those two converters on a given lens?

I don't think that convertor will work on the 200mm/4 macro due to the
convertor's configuration. What you want is the 1.4XS.
I did mean the 1.4X-L, the lens is designed to accommodate the long
"snout" of
the X-L TCs and the pair seem to work quite well together.
