The Klingon metabolism differs from that of humans in many ways. Despite the fact that both races were 'spawned' by a primitive carbon based life from that landed on their home worlds billions of years ago. The reason for the Klingon's resistance to methanol is astonishing. The optic nerve in humans as we know leaves the back of the eye and enters the brain just below and in front of the pituitary gland. It travels to the optic chiasm through the optic tract all the way to the visual cortex. But in the Klingon's brain the pituitary gland encases the optic nerves all the way from the eye to the visual cortex. The gland is encased in a gelatinous sheath that is impervious to any molecules larger than water. Furthermore, the breakdown products of methanol degradation (formaldehyde and formic acid being the most toxic) are rapidly absorbed and rendered harmless in minutes by a mechanism that is not well understood.. The main reason humans can't drink Klingon cocktails, is because they are almost always made with methanol. Ethanol is not well tolerated by the Klingon -- they become delirious and fall about immediately. The effect wears off after 24 hours or so. The huge, ramifying, pituitary gland of the Klingon has been the subject of much research.

He does seem a bit turned around.

However, Cotty, I understand methanol is ok for the Klingon metabolism. No wonder you guys are always wanting to fight all you have to do is stick a bucket out the airlock in passing.

No need for any assumptions at all. I can confirm absolutely and without a shadow of doubt that I was asking the people of the PDML to send me an olive so that I could travel to the constellation of Cassiopeia, on my own (except
for the aforementioned olive and an extremely large cocktail glass) and
drink the 463 million km of free ethanol to be found there.

Luckily for me, before I had even pulled on the gloves of my space suit and fired up the engine of my rocketship, Don Williams pointed out that ethanol
is dangerous.

So I've changed my mind I and won't be going there after all.

However, I'm a generous spirit, and liberal with it, so if anybody else
wants to avail themselves of the said alcohol, they're quite welcome. I have
not staked a claim on it.
CHILDREN OF THE PDML!

Some of you may have decided that you'd like some of that free booze for yourself and your little chums. Take my advice. By the time you get there you may still be below the legal age for drinking alcohol in your community
- don't drink it without permission from your parents. And never drink
ethanol in your home constellation.

I want some of whatever Bob's drinking tonight.

Cheers,
Cotty
