Shel,

I've shot 3-5 images in raw, 3,000 as high quality jpegs.
1) I didn't shoot any raw until I bought a copy of PS Elements 4.0
because I had no facility to read/convert the photos.
2) I have no desire to spend more time in front of the computer
screen editing photos. (I'm an old Kodachrome slide shooter-
WYSIWYG.) If it's difficult lighting, do some chimping and reshoot if
necessary.
3) I recognize raw is extra work and haven't done enough comparison
testing to see what the practical advantages might be.
4) Cotty told me that if what I wanted was to have fun taking
pictures and not spend a lot of time post processing, it was OK to
shoot high quality jpegs and forget about raw.

I bought a new Sony laptop as the old Toshiba had some screen
problems. The extra quality of the Sony screen is obvious when I post
identical shots on both computers. Some of my stuff from San Diego is
good on the Toshiba, but stunning on the Sony. I can see the ist DS
competing with slide film. Maybe as I proceed with the new Sony
laptop, I'll investigate raw shooting a bit more.

Regards, Bob S.
