Epson 1640su Photo is about as good as it gets, although not sure what
the price is in the US.  The 1240 should be pretty good, but I think you
have to buy the hood separately which may almost cost as much as the
1640 bundle and is less dpi.  I think 1600 dpi is about as low as you
should go for 35mm negs and only then at a push...

Well, just in time...  My PrimeFilm film scanner crapped out just when

tax rebate showed up (I'm thinking it's a conspiracy).  So, I'm looking
