Toine,
You might try both front and back focusing. 
1) Start the MF beyond a given point and move 'back' to the point.

2) Start the MF short of a given point and move 'up' to the point.

This may sort out the eye question.

Do you have and are you using, an in-focus indicator light in the
viewfinder?
