That's pretty much how it stacks up. Although I wouldn't say the newest
version has more plastic parts. It's a very high quality lens. And with
today's prices, it's probably worth looking for. I wouldn't go with the
early 3.5 version given today's buyer's market.

Hi,
Well, I hope something on topic and not digital is still
acceptable!
Who here has an opinion on the 55mm for the 6x7? Here is
what I have learned from the photo groups:
super tak 55f3.5
s-m-c tak 55f3.5
smc tak 55f4.0
smc pentax 55f4.0
(hope I have this right, doing it from memory and a sleepy
head).
The older 55f3.5 is softer (especially at corners) but
corrected better, has an almost impossible to find 100mm
filter size.
The older 55f4.0 is sharper, but not as sharp as the latest
version, the newer one being a bit lighter (more plastic
parts?)and minimum focusing distance a bit better.
And then, of course, some people have completely different
opinions.
I want to use the lens for b&w, more for industrial areas
than green scenics, but some of those too.
A person is offering me a nice condition s-m-c 55f3.5 with a
hood, but no filters. I might want a uv or a yellow anyhow,
perhaps a polarizer.
Any opinons would be appreciated.
Dave
