Hi!
I believe (he) means that he's set the camera at ISO 400 and then (using the exposure compensation feature) deliberately underexposed 2 stops... thus yielding the same exposure as if the ISO had been set to 1600 to start with. Then, plus two stops of compensation is applied during "development" (the conversion of the RAW data)
This is very interesting and I'd be sure to try it... Now, if I set my camera to ISO 400 and underexpose by 2 stops I may as well *completely* loose some information that I would otherwise capture at ISO 1600 with "normal" exposure... If that's what I want and if I am aware of that, then I am good to go ;-).
