Here we go, it looks like the Crusades are starting again.

        Lemme see if I can stop what I started:

MacOS-X: Elegant interface, solid OS, seamless applications for photography and many other things. High hardware cost.

Winders: Adequate interface, stability, performance, color management, for most photography work.

Linux: Almost completely useless for pro-photography work. Lack of integrated color management, device support, and easy-to-use applications. If you're willing to tinker and figure things out, you can generally get done what you need without paying for any software.
